|| Thursday November 16th is Stop Pressure Ulcer day ||

Stoke Mandeville Spinal Research (SMSR) is proud to support the many UK-wide and international organisations coming together to raise awareness of pressure ulcers to highlight their impact on quality of life for the spinal cord injury community and how we can best tackle them.

In the UK, up to 200,000 people develop a new pressure ulcer annually and treatment costs the NHS more than £511 million (*stats provided by Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust).

At SMSR, we are committed to funding research into four priority areas:

  • Pressure Ulcers
  • Assistive Technology Primarily for Upper Limb Function
  • Neuropathic Pain
  • Urinary Tract Infection

We hope that this research leads to new treatments and therapies, and the dissemination of best practice in these areas.

Thank you to our Ambassador Heidi Herkes for her support in raising awareness of this important issue.
