Office Team

Derek Cutler, Research Grants Manager

Derek is responsible for overseeing SMSR's research grants programme, as well as general charity management. Previously he worked at Imperial College London and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), where he project managed international research and policy advice projects related to value for money in healthcare spending. He holds an MSc in International Development from Birkbeck, University of London.

Kate Favell, Corporate & Community Fundraiser

Kate is responsible for generating income through our relationships with Corporate and Community fundraisers. She has always been passionate about the invaluable work of the charity sector and prior to joining the team, worked in fundraising at the British Heart Foundation for over 10 years. Kate’s interest in fundraising began after independently raising £3,000 to volunteer with Raleigh International working on community projects in Africa. Since this experience, Kate has taken part in numerous fundraising challenges raising vital funds for a variety of charitable causes.

Sam Heggie, Communications and PR

Sam is founder of Shout PR and has over 25 years' experience of working in the non profit sector. She provides freelance PR and communications consultant support for us on a part time basis.

Charlotte Minoprio, Fundraising Manager

Charlotte began her fundraising career at Macmillan Cancer Support, and  has since worked for a range of different causes. She enjoys working closely with supporters to ensure that every penny raised is maximised and appreciated.

Tamara Romanyk, Trusts Fundraiser

Tamara has worked for nearly 20 years raising funds for a range of charitable causes, including two national medical research charities.  While focusing mainly on trusts, foundations and statutory funding bodies, she has also worked with companies and assisted local non-profit groups in raising funds for their work.
